An exuberant and joyful song about unity, and the source of this album's title, Made By Human Hands, the lyrics for I Live In The City are based on a poem by schoolchildren. Featuring a coda by legendary British jazz saxophonist Courtney Pine, who honed his craft in Grand Union Orchestra when he was starting out in the 1980s.
lyrics
I live in the city, yes I do
I live in the city, yes I do
I live in the city, yes I do
Made by human hands
Black hands, white hands
Yellow and brown
All together, built this town
Black hands, white hands
Yellow and brown
All together make the wheels go round
I live in the city, yes I do
I live in the city, yes I do
I live in the city, yes I do
Made by human hands
Black hands, white hands
Brown and tan
Mill the flour, clean the pan
Black hands, white hands
Brown and tan
The working woman and the working man
I live in the city, yes I do
I live in the city, yes I do
I live in the city, yes I do
Made by human hands
Black hands, brown hands
Yellow and white
Build the buildings tall and bright
Black hands, brown hands
Yellow and white
Filling everyone with shining light
Black hands, white hands
Brown and tan
Mill the flour, clean the pan
Black hands, white hands
Brown and tan
The working woman and the working man
The working woman and the working man
